Not only does Second Life address the needs of the arts community, education and the military, but the grid also supports both team sports and extreme sports.
Most of us have watched the surfers, skiers, and skateboarders in Second Life. But, have you watched a soccer game or a football game or an ice hockey game?
Chamonix City opened several sims featuring winter sports that include not only skating, sledding, etc, but also, the GOHA, Global Online Hockey Association.
With much fanfare, Chamonix City opened over several days with many events that included live music by The Follow and other live musicians, and a full sports store featuring freebies from your favorite hockey team!
I am going to make a point to put these sports events on my SL calendar. How fun to watch a fully scripted game, wear my fav team’s sweatshirt and cheer on my favorite players! GOHA! Goooo team go!
Roller Hockey is a fun sport and a great alternative to Ice Hockey during the summer, and in regions that do not get freezing temperatures to provide frozen outdoor playing surfaces. Some communities have public facilities that are designated for roller sports like inline hockey and skateboarding. There are even roller hockey leagues in many areas of the U.S and other countries.
There are only a few surfacing options when it comes to roller hockey. The ideal playing surface must be smooth to allow the puck to glide across the surface. Rough surfaces can also cause premature wear of the skate wheels. Asphalt and Concrete are commonly used, but they still lack the desired level of smoothness. Tennis and basketball surfaces are also textured, so they are not the answer either.
Since the 1990′s, some manufacturers of acrylic sport surfaces have been producing specialty surfaces for roller hockey, skateboarding, and other multi-use recreational areas. These coating systems are made from more durable acrylic resins that can stand up to the abuse of roller sports. Unlike other sports surfaces, these coatings are not mixed with silica sand so the playing surfaces are customized for roller blades, skateboard wheels, and pucks. Skate coating systems are generally acrylic based, and available in multiple colors. The most common surface colors for inline hockey are ice blue and gray, with red, white, and blue lines.
Not only do acrylic sport surfacing systems provide ideal playing conditions, but they also act as a high-quality pavement sealer. The coating systems protect the pavement from sun’s ultraviolet rays, moisture, and other environmental enemies. This is a great way to extend the life of your facility and protect your investment for years to come.
Very little maintenance is required on acrylic roller hockey surfaces. General cleaning with brooms, blowers, and pressure washers to remove debris will prevent excessive abrasion and surface wear. When using a pressure washer, make sure not to exceed 70 p.s.i. or surface damage could occur. Should cracks appear in the pavement, acrylic crack sealants and patching products are available to repair the surface.
Acrylic skate systems can be used on indoor or outdoor skating rinks, in any climate in the world. If you would like to find out more about acrylic roller hockey surfacing systems, search the internet for an acrylic roller hockey surface manufacturer. They can also help you locate installers to provide free estimates for surfacing or construction of a roller hockey rink.

A Competitive Sport ? Horse Racing
Horse racing is a very competitive sport. Race horses are athletes at the peak of their physical perfection. It takes a lot of training to get them ready for race day. One of the most enjoyable aspects of horse racing is watching these beautiful animals doing what they do best.. Horses have such beautiful gaits. The way they carry themselves when their strides are fully extended is one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen. . Imagine horses racing at speeds of 40 miles an hour with 130 pounds on their back while competing with other horses to win the horse race. What makes this sport so beautiful compared to other sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey or golf) is that in no other sport is the athlete required to exert so much energy and effort for such a period of time. Horse racing requires these magnificent animals to carry weights, including the jockey, and in some cases above 130 pounds at speeds of approximately 40 miles per hour.
I have watched many so-called professional gamblers or individuals who love to bet on horses and follow the racing circuit everywhere. These individuals, so-called professional handicappers, try to make a living on betting, wagering and picking winners. Events like the Kentucky Derby that takes place the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs are places where you will see hoards of people gathering to see the best of horses compete with each other. Thoroughbred race horses are the fastest breed of horses. They say you can determine a champion race horse by looking in his eyes. These race horses will show expressions of strength and dominance. You’ll find free horse racing videos on horses competing in the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown taking place at Pamlico Racetrack each year two weeks after the Kentucky Derby on the internet.
Such a competitive game can also be played online through online horse racing games readily available on the internet. You can download free horse racing games and sit back and enjoy watching the best horses like Zenyatta and Sir Barton run for the finish line in the best of Breeders’ Cup and Kentucky Derby. You can breed thoroughbred horses and train them the way you want virtually. 3d horse racing games will keep you hooked onto your seats. These virtual horses will teach you a lot of things about the real world of racing.

The Interesting Evolution Of Hockey Sport
Harold Hockey

I found an old tin of charcoal/chalk fixative in a box on top of the wardrobe. Handy, as I have to do a quick charcoal drawing for college.
The price label on top took me right back. I hadn’t thought about Harold Hockey, an art shop in Bristol, for years. I can barely remember the inside of the shop, nor why I bought this rather than a can of hairspray that would have done nearly as good a job. But it was a sudden shock of time travel all the same.

The sport of the hockey is now having lots of changes. There are now ice hockey and field hockey in the Olympic Sports that made it more interesting. This kind of sports is really exciting and is thrilling to watch. The players involve in here must be fast and should posses lots of skill in order to be competitive with other players.
The Roller hockey sports is one of the most popular sports in the field of sports as this is one of the original game of hockey. It is first played using the traditional quad roller skates. But as the time evolved the new designs are invented and they are now using the inline skates that makes it called as the Inline hockey sports. There are now different kinds of skates and the choice may vary in the kind of sports or in the place where the game will be conducted. There are also different choices when it comes to the kind of gloves.
The rules and the goals of winning may vary from the kind of sport they are playing. When it comes to inline hockey games the goalies are using a unique catch glove while when it comes to quad hockey they are blocking the shots with a batting glove. The inline hockey is also called as the street hockey and the quad hockey is also known as the hardball hockey. These two sports also differ in the amount of time that they are played.
The two different hockey sports are very much liked by lots of people. As a matter of fact the quad hockey has been a part of the Olympic sport. This may also surprise you but even women are now entering this specific kind of hockey sports. Some of the countries are of course not open for the playing sport on ice. The hockey sport may vary from time to time and there will be more exciting changes.

Best Hockey Skates?
Finding the best hockey skates is a hard thing to do. It is. That is why I am writing this article regarding my experience in hockey equipment. I’ve had great experience with Bauer hockey skates and even though they were the cheaper version of hockey skates, they were the absolute best for my money. CCM is also a good brand, but I had more issues with them than I did with Bauer which tends me to rank Bauer above them. CCM Vector skates look like an improvement over the old TACKs brand, but I can’t vouch for them as I’ve never owned a pair of those skates before. I find that Bauer’s brand of skate fit much better and I had better control of movement in them.
Nike Bauer is the brand that I’ve talked about in the first paragraph, even though I’ve owned CCM TACKs for the majority of my hockey playing life. It’s really just a matter of convenience. I didn’t really care for them in the beginning, but I got used to the feel of their skate boot. Did I like them after that? Not really, it’s just that I had to adjust my playing while wearing this particular pair of hockey skates. I know that not every player will have this problem. It’s up to you to decide weather or not you wish to try all pairs of skates or not. I’d rather not as it’s expensive.
Another company that has gotten into the hockey equipment game is Reebok. RBK is the short version of the name in which they produce their line of sports products. Have I ever used their equipment while playing hockey? No I haven’t, but I can tell you that this brand is sponsored by the NHL. That’s right, Reebok is the official hockey equipment provider of the NHL. So they have to have some degree of comfort in the hockey gear area. Do I think Reebok Hockey Skates are good? I don’t know. They might be, but I haven’t had a chance to play a game in them.
Choosing skates can be tough. You need to know what type of bearings come in the skates. You should also check out the wheels. Are they indoor wheels or outdoor wheels? If your playing outdoor hockey or street hockey, then you want a harder wheel. Indoor hockey players need softer wheels. Is the frame plastic or metal? I always go for aluminum chasis in my hockey skates as I like stiffness and control.
Well, you won’t find any good sports equipment that works for you without trying it on and playing a game in it. There are many brands to choose from. Nike Bauer, CCM, and Reebok are some companies, but that’s just to name a few. If you want to find out who has the best, do your own research. I personally think that Bauer has the best hockey skates.
College Hockey: A Pure Sport
Hockey Sticks

The hockey sticks of the Washington Capitals
Of all the sports left out there, the only truly pure one left is college hockey. And although hockey in general is sort of like the red headed stepchild of the sports world, college hockey really should be paid more attention. Not only does it prove that college athletes don’t need to stupid to participate in sports, it goes to show that teamwork and perseverance actually do matter in sports still.
With many teams in the college arena having big name recruits that the team is centered around, college hockey enjoys a sort of anonymity when it comes to that. Of course there are still big name recruits, but since hockey is not as popular or given as much analysis and scope as some other college sports, they seem to not be as affected as some players who make the jump to the pro ranks after their football or basketball careers. College hockey players also seem to excel in academics more often than do football or basketball players, though that is a pretty broad generalization, I do believe that hockey players, in general, are smarter than most football players who can hardly even compose a coherent sentence.
College hockey is also more of a team sport. If all of the guys on the ice are clicking, then the team will do well. Even if there is one stand out, he cannot dominate the entire game because there are too many other people on the rink that will either try to take him out or will want the puck. On the football field or the basketball court, you can throw to the same dominant receiver or dish the ball to the dominant center the entire game if you need some quick points. But in college hockey, even the most dominant forward on the ice can get stonewalled by a no-name goalie that happens to catch a hot streak at the right time.
Also, a low scoring game in hockey can still be exciting. If there is a low scoring game in basketball or football, it is ruled to be boring. But a 1-0 score in hockey could feature over 50 shots on net by both teams and go into triple overtime. Of course, that is really rare, but generally hockey is a low scoring game anyway, so high scores are somewhat of an anomaly. Another thing that sets college hockey apart from other college sports is the rivalries. Obviously, there are some really big rivalries in football and basketball, but college hockey has the added benefit of fights. Sure, the players are not supposed to drop the gloves, but at some point, it is bound to happen. Take for instance the Minnesota Gophers and the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. I would put that rivalry up against any other rivalry in college sports for fan participation, school pride and heatedness.
Although college hockey does not get the same sort of coverage that the other college sports do, it is still the most team oriented and the one that has been least diluted by outside interests and major advertisers. In short, college hockey is still pure and untainted by modern society, and I hope it stays that way.
Soccer – The World’s Most Popular Sport
Soccer is perhaps the world’s favorite spectator sport, popularly known as “Football” in Britain and other European countries. This game can be as frustrating as golf, as physical as football and hockey, as erratic as baseball, and as exciting as basketball. No simple word can describe the popularity of the game, with a global television audience of 49 billion people for the 2002 World Cup alone. The game is exciting and highly addictive to watch and play.
Professional game rules require 11 players per team, 10 playing the field and one goalkeeper. With the use of a round ball, the matched is player with the two teams wearing shirts of different colors with distinctive soccer patches. The game is divided into two sets, each for 45 minutes long with the referee adding “extra time” based on time being wasted or play being stopped during the original 45 minutes. Usually, the extra time will be about one-to-three minutes.
A maximum of three substitutes may be used in any match played in an official competition organized under the auspices of the World Governing body Federation International Football Association (FIFA), the confederations or the national associations. However, in other competitions the rules must state how many substitutes may be nominated, from three up to a maximum of seven.
The decision regarding a match ending with a tie score usually depends on the actual type of game being player. There are times when the just simply ends in a tie score after the regular 90 minutes game plus any added time. On the other hand, a game ending with a tie score may lead into an overtime with an allotted time of extra play leading to penalty kicks, this usually occurs during a deciding game of a tournament. Each team is given five attempts to score on the opposing goalkeeper, the team with the highest score wins the game.
During a game, players are only allowed to wear soccer equipment and are prohibited to wear anything that may harm him as well as the other. This includes any kind of jewelry and other accessories. The basic soccer equipment of a player include a jersey or shirt with their distinctive soccer patches; shorts, if thermal under shorts are worn, it has to be the same main color as the shorts; stockings; and footwear, soccer shoes, boots, cleats.
There are instances that players may use extra equipments such as shin guards and headgears. The shin guards protect the leg below the knee and are completely covered by the stockings. These are either made of rubber, plastic, or similar substances. While the head gear are available to protect younger players when heading the ball.
For goalkeepers, they must wear a color that separates him from the other goalkeeper, players, the referee and the assistant referees.
There are four important details that one should know about the game before he is ready to play soccer. The first is that only the goalkeeper is allowed to use his hands, and this is only within the confines of the marked-off area surrounding the goal. When a player uses their hands on a ball, the opposing team gets a free kick from the spot of the violation.
The second vital information that you should remember about the game is that players are generally penalized for rough or unfair play with the use of cards. A yellow card is considered a stern warning, while a red card signifies a serious violation. Once a player receives a red card it means that he had been ejected from the game and cannot be replaced and that leaves the player’s team with less players. Meanwhile receiving two yellow cards will equal to a red card, meaning the player will receive the same penalty.
The History Of The Baseball Bat
Baseball was a very young sport in the mid-eighteen hundreds, so batters usually made their own bats. This led to a lot of experimentation with the shape and size of the baseball bat. It didn’t take long for players to learn that the best bats were those with rounded barrels. With all the shapes and sizes being used, some rule had to be established about the bat. In 1859, it was established that baseball bats could be no larger than two and a half inches in diameter, though they could be any length. After ten years, a restriction of 42 inches was put on the length of the baseball bat, but still no regulations governing the shape.
1884: The Louisville Slugger is Born
Baseball bat’s most popular name, still to this day, is the Louisville Slugger. Seventeen-year-old John Hillerich watched Pete Browning break his bat at an 1884 Louisville game. John observed as Pete Browning got frustrated, and after the game offered to make him a new bat. Pete Browning joined John Hillerich at his father’s woodworking shop, where Pete supervised the construction of his new bat. Browning went three for three with his new bat. Word spread quickly, but not as quickly as the demand did once everyone knew about these bats. It wasn’t long before each baseball bat that John and his father constructed was slapped with the famous Louisville Slugger trademark.
Evolution of Regulations
In the 1890s, bats could no longer be flat at the end, according to the rules committee. They increased the diameter by a quarter of an inch as well, making the maximum diameter two and three quarters of an inch. In the early nineteen hundreds, one of the greatest players, Honus Wagner, was the first player paid to have his name burned into Louisville Slugger bats. Despite the continual evolution of the regulations regarding the size and shape of bats, the bats of today look much like the ones of a hundred years ago, the biggest difference being that today’s bats are much lighter and have thinner handles.
The Rise of Aluminum
William Shroyer patented the first metal baseball bat in 1924, though they were not seen in baseball until introduced by Worth in 1970. Worth soon produced the first aluminum one-piece bat, and the first little league aluminum bat. Easton introduced a much stronger bat in the late ’70s . These skyrocketed the popularity of aluminum bats, though they were not allowed in major league games. In 1993, both Easton and Worth introduced titanium bats, and in 1995 Easton and Louisville Slugger introduced the lightest grade of aluminum bats available to date. Continuing developments include double walled bats, and scandium-aluminum bats.
No matter what kind of baseball bat a player uses today, the sport remains one of the world’s favorites. Not many can resist the sunny days and cool nights in the stands, with the cracking sound, fans on their feet, and the smell of hot dogs in the air.
