State Legion Baseball tourney set

The state’s finest American Legion baseball players will descend on Ashwaubomay Park in Ashwaubenon beginning Wednesday for the Wisconsin AAA tournament.

What I Know And Remember About Baseball – The Catch

We have all seen it, grounders, pop flies, line drives and throws seemingly placed in the defenders glove, the en gratis easy out. More often though with younger players something goes awry. Passed balls, dropped, juggling, in and outs are symptoms of a breakdown of player skills.

As Baseball Players on defense, the utmost responsibility is to control the baseball. Players can gain control by catching, knocking down or otherwise keeping the baseball put into play within their grasp between them and the base in play. Baseball control stops the offense from advancing the bases. If the offense cannot advance, they cannot score which is the object of the game.

Baseball playing skills are really a simple matter. The game itself can be broken down into a few elements as well. Pitchers initiate the play by throwing. Batters continue the play by hitting what the Pitcher hurls. Defenders execute their duties by a catch, a throw and a catch. When offensive player advancement is halted the play is over. Just five simple steps to accomplish.

What happens is steps three and five which should be automatic anatomic response can be anything but automatic. Bouncing hops off the infield, sun in the eyes, poor throws are just a few of the wrinkles in our five step game that adds variety and drama to the all time American pastime.

Skills of catching a baseball start with a good athletic stance. Knees slightly bent, weight forward on the balls of the feet allowing for quick movement in any direction. Hands are out front waiting to respond in any direction the ball may travel. When fielding, the players bottom is lowered in response to the approaching ball. The defender has already aligned themselves with the path of the ball.

To receive the baseball with the glove, the glove hand is pointed down to be perpendicular with the ground. When the glove is at this angle, a missed catch will result in the ball bounding in front of the defender. Off angle misses are simple geometry, the baseball can bounce anywhere. A great hazard of playing baseball is taking it in the teeth from a bad hop or passed ball.

When Players place their gloves off angle it is impossible to predetermine where the ball will go. Just a few near misses during practice can cause the Player to develop bad habits. Taking their eyes off the ball, twitch turn of the head to flat out intimidation of the baseball are all driven from a lack of confidence that the Player can protect themselves from the ball with their glove.

Fielders complete the catch by covering the ball in their glove with their throw hand. A common description for this catching position is the alligator. Like the jaws of this water living predator, the hands are placed heal to heal and spread apart prior to receiving the ball, as the baseball enters the glove the Players hands clamp down and cover it. This method aids in preventing the ball from bouncing out of the glove.

Concurrently with covering the ball with the alligator motion, soft hands are implemented to combat the energy within the traveling baseball. Automotive shock absorbers are an excellent example of deceleration. At impact the hands retract quickly, transferring the energy from the baseball to the glove. As the hands decelerate so does the ball. Within fractions of a second the balls energy is dissipated and the fielder is now in control.

Repetitive drills bring the basic mechanics of the fielders duties. Breaking down each motion into individual movements instill the muscle memory necessary to execute a successful play. Player technique is the compilation of the individual skills necessary used to complete the active portion of play they are engaged in at the moment.

Situational drills need to be incorporated with technical drills. The more experience a Player has with, if this happens then I do that, will transfer to the field as confidence. When Players have full knowledge of what their role is in any given situation, they tend to complete their tasks with high success. Success breads confidence, confidence reinforces success.

So, we have covered all the basics of the catch but there are still those moments when your best Player just folds in the moment. As a coach you have done the drills. Situational scenarios are a regular part of each practice. All your players can do every movement in their sleep, yet breakdowns still happen.

Whether it be Player anxiety or simply the heat of the moment, players get into a hurry to move from step one to step four. Pleasing the coach or team mates, individual Players will rush through their motions with the belief that the faster they move is the only hope of making the out.

Often overlooked during practice are the situational drills that spur player intensity. These are also the hardest to create during practice where Players are in their comfort zones. Dividing your team into team into groups of three where they compete against each other in drills will add the last element needed to develop.

Throwing relay races, round robin and pickle are good drills that add high excitement to the practice. Relay is three Players where the man in the middle catches and throws. With 3 or more teams the action gets quite brisk. Round robin uses a four man team, separate the players into fifteen yard squares, clockwise, Player one throws a grounder to Player two the runs to where Player two is standing, Player two does the same with Player three and the players progress around the square.

Baseball and Network Marketing

With the advent of another baseball season upon us it reminds me of just how much network marketing is like baseball. In baseball you have guys who hit .300 making millions of dollars. Quite the same as a closing rate of 30% can earn you millions of dollars as a marketer, especially in the network marketing business. So basically baseball players and marketers are getting paid to loose 70% of the time. That’s a sobering thought but one that can frustrate the average network marketer into quiting. So how do we look at this in a different light to improve our mindset on this matter.

We have to like in baseball look at this as a numbers game, because honestly that’s all it is, that really all baseball is. That’s why you see tons and tons of books, newspapers and magazines spend so much time on statistics in baseball. In baseball people have even invented new mathematics to support a player’s worth, Bill James calls is saber-metrics for example. The worth of a baseball player is measured by his production over a period of time in numbers. So if we take that and really use it for our own mental well being in our network marketing we would be very much more mentally fit for the endeavor we are undertaking.

First thing we have to realize is that it is extremely rare that a player hits .300 from their first day or months playing baseball, whether that is in the big leagues, minor leagues or youth leagues. We much learn a skill set over time. The key here is over time, specifically repetition over time. No one makes it to the big leagues, hits .300 on his first day of playing baseball. Network marketers, just like ball players must practice over time. And the next key here is that every attempt is really just practice, its the practice of failing 70% of the time! As we practice our average may start at .100 gradually move to .200 and then to .300 or better, but it is the practice of failure. So how many attempts do we take? Ask yourself this, does a ballplayer ask or tell himself I will take 600 at bats this year and if I don’t hit .300 I’ll quit? No, there is no idea of quiting or a goal that he has to make to keep practicing, they love the game so they keep on playing whether they are hitting .100 or .300. Now granted the may or may not stay in the big leagues, but that does not mean they quit. Take a look at how many minor league teams there are in the country. Point is they keep on playing, practicing and failing most of the time. We as network marketers can do the same but we must keep practicing.

The amount of practice time we may have to put in as network marketers, scares a lot of people away. Again how many at bats do you think major league players take before they hit .300. Yes the answer is thousands, once again thousands and yes they still may not hit .300. But doesn’t that make you feel better about our craft, isn’t that better than working a job with a set salary for life. If we are going to step into this arena and ask for the millions of dollars we want to generate, it seems to me that a thousand or even ten thousand prospecting calls, presentation calls and closing calls is a very small price to pay. In addition we have very little threat of injury, due to being thrown at by a 90 mph fastball over a thousand times!

So the next time your feeling a bit frustrated about not growing your network marketing down-line think of two things. One baseball it keeps most things in perspective and two this article and the web site that can help keep everything in perspective in your network marketing growth. I do love baseball and network marketing, I did not make it the big leagues because I did not learn this lesson until I was introduced to network marketing. I am grateful for that because I believe I can change more lives for the better as a business growth specialist than I could as a ball player. Whether you take the next step in following up to my web site or not, good luck in all of your pursuits and remember to “Root, root, root for the home team at the Ole’ Ball Game !”

Comparison Of Ash And Maple Baseball Bats

This article is structured in two parts: The first will talk strictly about ash baseball bats, and the second will be about maple baseball bats. You can then decide for yourself which wood baseball bat is more suitable for you.

Ash is among the most common materials chosen to make bats out of. In fact, ash baseball bats have an important position in the history of the game of baseball. The characteristics of ash (soft, light and porous) make it very suitable for baseball bats. The straight grain patterns in ash are convenient for designing beautiful baseball bats and making them very effective. Being a ring porous wood, ash makes some large cells during its early life. In time these cells become smaller and denser. At the weak woods the cells are much larger. By looking at the grain count, you determine the hardness of ash wood:

There are two types of ash: white ash and green ash. Because white ash is a high-quality wood, it makes very good baseball bats, that are accepted by most leagues and organizations. Its unique characteristics lend itself to being the most common choice for game play or practice. On the other hand, the green ash, also known as water or red ash is rarely used to make bats.

Maple baseball bats are among the most popular choices in bats, with ash being the biggest competitor among the baseball fans. Yet, it is said that the maple woods are the leaders. This is because maple wood is endowed with a tight grain that offers many of the qualities suited for smacking a baseball. The finer the grade of maple, the more expensive the bat, so always remember to ask about this aspect when buying a bat.

Other factors to consider before purchasing any maple bat, like other bats, are weight, length, and grip. More and more players take advantage of the great swing-empowering benefits of owning a good maple baseball bat. Serious amateur baseball players in the non-professional leagues or those who have major league aspirations, will often practice with a maple bat instead of an aluminum bat. There are several reasons for this. First, the sweet spot is more precise. Secondly, maple bats are solid and weigh more. After you get to practice with a maple bat, come game time, your aluminum bat swing will be much more dangerous. Another advantage is that a hard rock maple bat is less likely to split when batting. Since maple is a hardwood it is quite dense giving the bat it’s holding power.

Knowing what you know now, it will be much easier for you to make the right choice on a baseball bat.

What Do I Need in Order to Become a USA Baseball Player?

Are you dreaming about a career in baseball? Dreaming is the first step, just so you know, together with ambition and determination. But if your dreams and goals are serious and if you are convinced that you belong among the top USA Baseball players, then here are some tips that can help you achieve what you desire! Or maybe you are the parent of a child who presents a great interest in USA Baseball, both in watching it and practicing it. So make sure you don’t waste your child’s potential!

The first thing you need if you want to become a baseball player is the right equipment, what else? Sure, this means spending money, but all hobbies and talents come with a price. After all, this is not such a financially-demanding hobby.

So, what do you need? First of all, you need to go to a large specialized store, such as Athletics Galore, Akadema (where you can find a wide range of items for juniors) or Just Bats. We all know that the baseball glove is the most important and valuable equipment item in this sport, but is it the only necessary one? No. Your shopping list should include: baseball bats, baseball gloves, softball bats, batting gloves, baseball cleats, chest protectors and batting helmets.

If you are an amateur, you can spare the batting gloves, for example, but if you want to be a professional, all these pieces will be actual must-haves. When selecting the needed equipment, make sure that you choose the best of the best, in case you are really aspiring to be a professional baseball player.

The equipment has to feel right, to fit you and this is why you need to be advised by a specialist when you shop and try the equipment on before you purchase it. The cheap equipments are not the best choices, so make sure you choose reputable brands that can offer you the performance and protection you need when playing the game.

If you are asking yourself whether there are certain academic requirements in order to become a USA Baseball player, the answer is simple: no. However, this does not mean that we all have equal chances of becoming baseball players. First of all, you need the right muscle tone, the fit and strong body type, lots of talent and you need to join a sportive club, a local team – some great sportsmen started from the smallest baseball teams and managed to become true professionals.

But there is one more thing that you need in order to become a professional baseball player and that is… luck. Besides the goals, ambition, equipment, hard work and training, you need that luck ingredient in order to obtain that successful USA Baseball player recipe.

History of Baseball

Baseball is often referred to as the Great American Pastime and it is funny to think that the exact history of baseball is vastly unknown. General historians mostly believe that it is roughly based on an English game called rounders. The game grew in popular in the north east around the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. The precise name of the sport had adjusted several times from “base”, to “roundball” to “cricket” throughout the beginnings of baseball history.

At that same timeframe of the early nineteenth century a number of cities began to form teams and leagues. The sport began to grow in popularity enough that the players and patrons of the game decided that they really needed to formalize the specifics of the game. So in 1845 Alexander Cartwright began formulating a list of rules that all teams are to follow by and ironically enough a number of those rules are still followed today. Cartwright is believed to have been the actual founder of the game and not Abner Doubleday say baseball historians. Cartwright was a fireman that formulated the basic premise of the sport and is credited with creating the first teams that used to play in New York with other fireman. He was credited with forming the Knickerbockers Baseball Club which sculpted baseball history. He then decided to follow the riches of the California Gold Mine and began spreading the game westward. His travels helped to expand this new game throughout the country.

The very first game of record actually took place a year after Cartwright developed his team in 1846. Ironically his team the Knickerbockers lost to the Baseball Club in a game at the Elysian Fields in Hoboken, NJ. As word spread of this interesting game it became more popular and began to have many more participants. So in the 1850’s a number of teams in the northeast came together to discuss rules and expanding the game and in 1858 they created the National Assoc. of Baseball Players, which is recognized as the first baseball league ever created in the history of baseball.

The sport blossomed in the late 1850’s as membership grew from 100 to over 400 teams and then the Civil War came about. The 1860’s civil war time decimated the interest in baseball as there was obviously no time for baseball. Yet, interestingly enough baseball began to travel to other areas throughout the country. Once the war ended the sport began to blossom again. Teams grew and cities throughout the country began to take interest and began to play one another.

The NABP was initially supposed to only be comprised of amateur athletes but like any sport it became very competitive and the best players were compensated which obviously has stood the time of baseball history. The sport began to change in 1869 when the Cincinnati Red Stockings (soon to be the Cincinnati Reds) decided to become the first professional team and pay there players. The Wright brothers who owned the team decided to recruit the best talent from around the country and they challenged all comers. They were so good that they went 65 and 0. With such little competition the idea of creating a completely professional league was sparked and in 1871 the National Association was developed.

Then in 1876 the National League was created as the National Association was dissolved. The National League which is still in existence today had a stronghold on all the major cities of the time and maintained the best players. In the early 1900’s the American and National league were formed which as we all know still remains. These changes in the 1900’s established the two leagues, the world series and established player contracts. The history of baseball had firmly been formed and was well on its way to establishing itself as the Great American Pastime.

Teaching Baseball Players How to Throw

In the play of the baseball the correct mechanics of launching is of primary importance. If a jet of the can’T of player with exactitude it makes its team little good outside in the field. The players must constantly try to improve their mechanics of launching. Few players take time necessary to become the really good launchers. The great pride should be taken when a player can uniformly throw to a target.

Key points in launching

The Handle

Many young players seize the ball with their distant too broad of fingers. This affects exactitude reduces the speed of the jet severely. The fingers should be about 1/4 inch with share (about the width of a yellow pencil #2). The index and the average finger should extend through the broad seams from the ball. This handle is also known as 4-bend the fastball. The trimmings of the index and the average finger rest on the seam of the ball. If you think of the ball like clock, the average index and fingers should put back each side of the clock of 12′O and the inch would rest directly under the ball with the clock of 6′O. There should be daylight between the ball and the palm of the hand of launching. It is the best handle to carry out the backspin right and to avoid tailing ball.

Action Of Arm

The action of arm is reported to the way that the arm of launching travels of the separation of hand at the release-point and follow-with through. The launchers of baseball must concentrate on breaking the hands and making a great fast movement with the arm in order to remain long with the arm going again to a good position of power. The position of power is referred to the position where the player has the arm of launching behind, of level with the shoulder or higher, and folded with the elbow. The index of throw-hand and the fingers average should be not forming to the top a V . the back of the hand of launching should face the launcher while the palm of the hand of launching should face far from the launcher. As a practitioner a good power place is essential while becoming a good launcher. The front shoulder should always move to the target and remain closed. While the player turns to the jet, the elbow on glove-side should be like top or higher than the shoulder on throw-side. The fingers of launching must upwards remain leaders by the release to obtain the good backspin right. While throwing with a associate, the young players should imagine to paint a vertical line with their hand of launching of the letters on their hat’of the associated S with their loop’of belt of the associated S.

Launching With The Circle

The players of baseball should always practise to throw on a from top to bottom plane to their target. While throwing with a associate, the player should concentrate on throwing downwards in the circle of the . the circle is a sector of the hat’of the associated S, right shoulder, loop of belt, and left shoulder. A player who can throw downwards in the circle uniformly is a good launcher.

Note: A player receiving a ball should always have the two hands in front of the specifying trunk with fingers and rise. This made a large target in the center of the circle.

To remain On The Line

The launchers should imagine a line to run of their foot of pivot directly by their target. While they throw, they should separate their arms on the imaginary line paying attention not leave the arm launching pass behind the line. The step should also be on the line. Any variation of the line will decrease exactitude. Because the player releases the ball it should concentrate on keeping his body on the line. Many players demolish line when they throw instead of follow-with through worms their target.

Note: The chin MUST be directed towards the target. Where the chin deals with the eyes will face and the body will follow.

To adjust the foot of pivot

The foot of pivot (hand-side of launching) must be square with the target. If the player starts by facing the target by throwing the foot of pivot should be open 90 degrees towards the target to hold account of the closing of the former part (of the hips and the shoulders). The lack to do this can have like consequence low exactitude and the speed. Many young players do not turn their foot of pivot by full 90 degrees to their target. To adjust the foot of pivot should be underlined with all the players to ensure the correct mechanics of launching.

It was known as much time that the baseball is a play of hook, and equips it which hook of plays the best of will victory usually. As a trainer of baseball, teach with your players the adapted fundamental principles of launching and you will gain more plays and will develop your players.

In the play of the baseball the correct mechanics of launching is of primary importance. If a jet of the can’T of player with exactitude it makes its team little good outside in the field.

The Baseball Weight Training Program

If you know baseball, you know how hard the training in baseball is and how innovative it is to perform weight training which is incorporated in a baseball training program, you would know how effective this training is in competitions. There are a number of persons though who say that baseball could be a dangerous method in weight training than when you do it slow and accurately in the gym or a fitness center. Many say that most of the coaches commit serious errors that cause traumatic bodily stress or injury in a person who is into a baseball weight training program.

1. Weight training through baseball should take into consideration the limitation of players – Even slight errors in baseball training can already cause injury to an individual. The truth though is that it is not really the training that does not work but it is the coaches who do not understand fully this kind of weight training program. There are many caches of baseball players who just want to increase and increase the strength and stamina of their field players but who do not think of the limitations of these athletes. Often times, the injury comes after severe and successive training in preparation for the upcoming competition. Least they know that their players are already over stressed and over trained.

2. Train but do not strain through overtraining. You should know that overtraining is not good because it not only causes injuries and severe muscle damages on the body but likewise, it defeats the very purpose of an exercise. You should know that like ordinary weight training exercises, the baseball weight training program should observe the same basic principles in weight training such as rest. Rest is as important as exercise and progression. In fact, you cannot progress if your body can no longer tolerate the load that you are putting on it. Challenge is a lot different from damage and that is what you want to avoid.

3. Incorporate variations in the training program. There have be variation in the types of routines that you do and in the intensity of the routines. It would be better to incorporate other exercises that similarly work to strengthen your muscles. Say for example, basketball routines may be incorporated in the baseball routines in order to enhance the flexibility of the body which is much required in the baseball game. There has to be variations as to the speed of your routines in the program. This is one form in which the progression principle can be incorporated in the program.

4. Force = Mass x Acceleration Principle in baseball – Lastly, you should know that the most important aspect in the weight training program in baseball is the force produced. Aside from the strength of the leg muscles and the hand and leg coordination, the program also develops extreme force particularly when one swings the baseball bat. Imagine what huge force you need in order to swing a bat at 90 mph. The very reason why most coaches incorporate weight training in baseball is because force requires mass times acceleration. The acceleration is defined as the speed at which the bar is moved while the mass is the weight on the bar.

This explains exactly how a baseball weight training program will help you achieve – greater force.
