Sharks Not Done Shedding Underachieving Tag Yet

In the NHL, San Jose has been known in recent seasons as a great regular season team, but they fade in the playoffs. They faced a tough test in the first round against a young Los Angeles team, and they showed a lot of heart to come away with a six-game victory. However, the Sharks still have a long way to go before we can stop calling them “chokers”.

The key to their win against the Kings was a massive comeback in Game 3 in Los Angeles, when the Sharks were down 4-0 in the second period. But they never gave up following a goaltender change, and the Sharks stormed back for a 6-5 overtime victory, their second of three wins in extra time. Ryan Clowe was the lead scorer with five goals and seven points, while the line of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley combined for 14 points. Thornton has been the poster child for San Jose’s Stanley Cup betting capitulations, but he had two game-winning goals against the Kings, including the series-winner on the road in Los Angeles. A surprise in the series has been Kyle Wellwood, who had four points and was a +6 for the series.

Now of course, there are still three rounds left and the Sharks still need to win 12 more games to lift the Stanley Cup. The Los Angeles series showed that they had heart, and they could withstand the pressure of overtime, but how will they fare against a team with more experience, like Detroit or Vancouver (or even Chicago if they manage to upset the Canucks)? Will they continue to play as they did against the Kings, or will they crumble as they have in the past?

There are still some questions on the blue line and in goal, but there is no question that they have enough firepower, and remember, goalie Antti Niemi backstopped Chicago to the Stanley Cup last year, so he knows how to make timely stops. The Sharks have the weapons to win the Stanley Cup, but do they have the mental strength? Only time will tell.

The first indoor ice hockey match was played on March 3, 1875 in Montreal. The first ice hockey world championship was held in 1920 summer Olympic Games but in 1930 it first was held as an individual event. Since Then Ice Hockey World Championship is held every year. It’s the biggest hockey event of the year.

With every year the world championship is getting better and better. Every year comes with new chances, new players and of course new interesting games between the best hockey teams in the world. The last two championships where won by Russia. Last year Russia won by using Canada’s mistakes against them and defeated Canada 2:1. Who will win this year? We will find out in the next few weeks.

Ice Hockey World Championship 2010 has started! This year’s championship is held in Germany.  Everyone wants to win and go home as the world champions but the winner can be only one. Every team will do everything they can to win.

This year’s championship most likely will be one of the most interesting. Russia will try to win the 3rd championship in a row but Canada, USA and other countries will try to defeat Russia and don’t let them get the 3rd victory in a row. Everyone will fight for them selves and no one will let someone else win easily. Everyone will fight to the end and won’t give up. Let’s hope for our team’s and see who will be the best this year.

Air Hockey – The Game of All Games

Air Hockey is one of those games that will always have mass appeal.  While there are no sticks and no ice, somehow the game seems just as action packed and intense.  It is a game that has gained fans all over the globe, and for good reason.

Below are 3 reasons why air hockey is such a great game:
1. You don’t need to be in shape to play it – it doesn’t matter whether a high class athlete and a couch potato play a game of air hockey, it is still anybody’s game.  The only things you have to do is bend over the table and move the “goalie” around to block the puck from entering the hole and giving the other person a chance to score.

2. You lose track of time – any good game allows you to forget time and space and live in the moment, air hockey does just that.  It seems that while you play the only thing you see are that white table and the puck that is moving back and forth.

3. It’s a great date game – this is a game that both men and women can meet on an equal playing field.  Unlike other games where men and women are separated for fairness, this isn’t necessary with air hockey.  This makes it a fun thing to go and do on a date – it can be even more fun if the girl wins!

Because it is such a fun game that is both easy to learn and exciting to play, air hockey is likely to remain popular.  If you have never played, you might want to go to your nearest game room and play.  Before long you may be purchasing your very own air hockey game to play at home whenever you want.

It may be the middle of summer, but some sports fans are counting down the days until the hockey season begins. Many people just can’t get enough of the fast-paced, hard hitting action and cannot wait until their favorite team starts the Zamboni and laces up their skates. If you know someone who is looking forward to the winter for just that reason and who has a birthday coming up, why not throw them a hockey-themed birthday party? It will certainly make the wait be much more fun.

The first thing you’ll want to do is send out incredible invitations. When selecting your announcements, you should look to include as much imagery as possible. Make sure your invites have pictures of pucks, sticks and skates. If the guest of honor has a favorite team, whether it be the Chicago Blackhawks or the Boston Bruins, including the team’s logo could be another terrific idea.

When it comes to decorations, you don’t want your guests feeling left out in the cold, so make sure you go all out to provide an excellent atmosphere. To begin, you should consider hanging up some hockey puck danglers. Also, the birthday boy or girl must have a favorite player, be it Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin, so you should figure out a way to pay homage to the star. Hockey player cutouts can be a good way to do this while adding another layer to your decorating scheme. In addition, consider purchasing some hockey clings that can be placed around your home. Goalie masks, sticks, a net and pucks can all prove to a be an awesome addition. For a wonderful, final touch that will complete the look, lay a hockey-themed cover over your kitchen table.

As with any party, you’ll need supplies that are not only useful, but match the theme as well. This will not be difficult for your shindig, as all you need to do is purchase cups, napkins and plates that resemble hockey pucks, or have a picture theiconic black disk on them. As your bash is intended to mimic a sporting event, you should provide your guests with the opportunity to express their inner hockey fan. A good choice would be to have personalized hand-clappers they can take home with them to commemorate the celebration. Similarly, inflatable number one hands will have your guests laughing as they play with the famous toy.

Of course, you would be remiss if you didn’t thank your guests for attending your party, so you should leave them with a parting gift in the form of a goody bag. The contents are up to you, and can include everything from candy to trinkets reminding them of the good times they had.

Any gathering of friends and family to celebrate a birthday is sure to be a blast, so adding a fun theme can be just the way to have guest remembering the get-together for months to come.
