College Soccer Teams and Scholarships

College soccer, like soccer in general, is a sport played between two teams consisting of eleven players, and is thought by many to be the most popular sport in the world. It is played on a rectangular field of grass or turf, with a goal set up at the opposite ends. The object of the game is to bring the ball into the opposing goal. Generally, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to use their hands or arms to catch the ball, while the rest of the team usually make use their feet to kick the ball in play, or else use their torso or head to propel a ball in midair. The team that manages to score the most goals by the end of the allotted time wins. For students eager to play college soccer and continue their education, the chance of playing in college soccer teams is an opportunity not to be missed.

Specific rules are set in order to regulate the play of the game. A penalty kick is rewarded when a contact foul or hand ball is made. The ball is placed on the penalty spot and all players must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is kicked. The goalkeeper should have both feet placed on the goal line until the ball is kicked. Afterward, if the ball rebounds off of the goal or the keeper and remains on the field, the ball is considered “live” and anyone can try to take possession of it.

For severe fouls, a referee will hold up one of two cards, depending on the gravity of the offense. The cards are about the same size as that of a playing card. One is yellow, while the other is red. When a card is held up in plain sight, the referee stops the game, calls the player over and writes the player’s name in his notebook, a process known as booking. A Yellow or Red Card merits a kick for the opposite team.

A yellow card indicates a formal warning for any of the following: unsportsmanlike behavior (includes hard fouls such as holding an opponent, faking an injury, etc); aggressive dissent in words or actions; repeated rule violations; delaying restarts of play, (in the case of defenders) failing to maintain the proper distance from the kicker on a corner kick, free kick or throw-in; entering or re-entering the field without the referee’s knowledge; and deliberately exiting the field without permission. Players who have already received 2 Yellow Cards are given a Red Card & ejected. However, in some leagues players leave after being given one yellow card. A player is given a Red Card for the following: foul play (includes any use of excessive force); violent conduct; deliberately touching the ball with by hand to prevent a goal; fouling an opponent to prevent an otherwise successful goal; as well as offensive, insulting or threatening language or gestures.

Home Run Madness: Getting Washington Senators Baseball Memorabilia

Are you a fan of the Washington Senators? Do you love watching your favorite team score its home runs and blast through the innings with all the points they need to win? Then you will surely salivate for the best Washington Senators baseball memorabilia, which are great when bought as is – and even more precious when signed by your favorite players.

There are many sites on the World Wide Web that offer Washington Senators baseball memorabilia. Some sites will offer forums and services in which Washington Senators fans can discuss plays, arrange meetings, and even trade goods both autographed and unsigned. Other sites will offer auction services, where Washington Senators fans can bid on their favorite items, and where prices can range from almost absurdly low for brand new merchandise, and extremely, unbelievably high for signed merchandise of Washington Senators baseball legends. Still other sites will offer buying and selling services, where the most desperate fans can still get a whiff of the Washington Senators.

If you are looking for Washington Senators baseball memorabilia, you can inquire at your local collector’s shops, or you can surf the Internet for the sites mentioned above. Be careful, however: many trading, selling, and buying sites are filled with predators that can steal your personal information. Do not give away your credit card number to anyone, and trust such numbers only to sites that are secure.

Here are a few categories of baseball memorabilia that you can buy online, whether with the Washington Senators logo, a Washington Senators player’s signature, or nothing at all. Although this list is incomplete, it should give you a fairly good idea of what you can get online if you know where to look and what price to expect.

- Signed baseballs, gloves, bats are perhaps the most precious materials to any serious collector of baseball memorabilia. If you have such materials from the Washington Senators, keep them in glass cases away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. These can damage your baseball memorabilia, or can cause the ink used for autographs to fade.

- Washington Senators jerseys and jackets are also popular in online merchant, auction, and trading sites. If you are able to avail of such materials, and unsigned, keep them in a good condition by following washing instructions. Keep them in boxes away from insects that can chew through the fabric. If you are able to buy signed jerseys or jackets of Washington Senators players, keep these away from moisture by framing them and hanging them up for display.

- Umpire helmets, and baseball helmets, in general, are relatively strong and sturdy, and do not need to be placed in glass cases. However, if your Washington Senators helmet is signed by your favorite player, you may need to display it in a glass case to keep the autograph ink from fading.

- Also popular amongst Washington Senators fans are autographed posters, books, and photographs of their favorite Washington Senators players. As a rule, the more team members in a photograph or poster, the more expensive it can be; and the more team members who have autographed the photograph or poster of the team, the more precious it is. If you have such photographs or posters, keep them away from moisture or direct sunlight, whether or not they have been photographed. If you have autographs on them, keep them sealed in glass frames and hang them in a part of your house or building that is dry and moderately lighted.

If you have books signed by Washington Senators players, you can wrap them in protective plastic and store them in either cardboard boxes or glass cases. If you have books about the team, then you need to do as any serious collector would: buy two copies of the book, and leave one unopened as an heirloom to the next generation of Washington Senators fans.

Winning Tips on Horse Racing

Online betting exchanges are getting popular not only among the punters, but in common individuals, too. Moreover, online betting has many advantages to it, because here you do not have to visit racetracks to place daily bets. Just bet on horse racing online and there is no need to bother about the results, since you receive these results on your computer on time.

Online betting exchange on horseracing helps to increase the revenue, whatever is the outcome of horserace. The reason is that here there are no bookmakers, who demand lofty shares of your net profits. Moreover, your earning may increase by 20%.

You simply need to recompense the betting exchange a small amount of your winnings. You can also be a bookmaker and bet against different online punters.

How To Earn More?

To increase the earnings in horseracing, you need to be aware of back as well as lay betting choices. Unlike conventional racecourse, in online betting exchange, you can use the lay technique and increase your odds of winning. In lay, you may also bet on the winning horse that might lose in the event. This type of option is considered immoral and a cause of criticism as well as corruption in racetracks, but in online betting exchange, you get the opportunity to lay bets, in such conditions too.

Moreover, this option of lay allows making profits regardless of the direction of racing results. You may lay at less price and then again at higher price, thereby ensuring a profit in both ways.

For instance, consider that you lay the bet on racehorse A for £5 in first race at 10/1. Again lay at 2/1 in second race, to ensure the profit in any case (win or lose) you need to offer an odd of 30 of the probable earnings, so that you can win even, if horse loses the race. Thus, you are covering the first £5.

If it wins in first round, you make £51, and if it loses, you lose only £5. In addition, now if it wins in the second race, you will suffer a loss of £15 and if it loses, you win £7.50 Therefore, if you add up two bets, you are still making a profit of £2.5. Thus, using lay bet you get the opportunity to earn money in either case.

To make more profits, online punters, who participate in the betting exchange, need not take initial offers on bets. Many a times, people depend on their instinct and place bets. Instead, consider several offers and settle for the one, which shows potential of winning.

Benefits Of Betting Exchange:

In online betting exchange, you do not lose anything, if you win every time. This is something very different from attending the field race, because bookmakers bully you, if you win consistently in filed horse race by betting the limited stakes and minimum closing accounts, within them.

To conclude, betting exchange gives you the ability to earn big money without any limit. Horseracing results that arrive on your computer screen may show you that the horse you bet on has lost but you do not have to bother, if you have placed lay bet.

Practicing for College Soccer

Parents of athletically-gifted children are understandably eager to participate in increasing their children’s odds in playing professional sports. Good parents are happy to help their kids flourish in their field where they can use their given talents to benefit others as well as themselves. If their child has a talent for football, for instance, they would like to get up-to-date with college soccer recruiting. However, other than that they are usually at a loss on how exactly they can help.

For those dreaming to play in college soccer, and perhaps in the professional leagues, practice is essential. There should be at least one ball available around the house ready for practice or play. Parents who play with their children do more than they think to help their sons and daughters. Even a short 10-20 minute session every other day spent on simple activities such as passing the ball will significantly improve their children’s ability to pass, receive, and control the ball. The parents may even become adept at the game themselves, which would be an even greater benefit.

Setting up practice cones in the yard can help the children practice the way they manage the ball. The cones can be substituted for whatever is available or within the family budget, as long as they can be used as markers. They can be set to mark imaginary boundaries such as goal posts. Dribbling in soccer is an important skill and it needs to be mastered, if they child is to play college soccer.

In relation to this, a small soccer goal for the yard would be decidedly handy as well. A soccer goal in the yard could increase the enjoyment of games and practice sessions for both the children and parents. It is not important if the goal is small.  A specific set up that best suits a particular household and situation would be best.

The Internet has proven to be a useful venue for students, parents, and even coaches looking for college soccer recruiting news and other related information. There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact about college soccer. D1Athletes is an online community wherein high school athletes and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need on college soccer recruiting. D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.

Catch Baseball Fever With Cleveland Indians Tickets

Cleveland Indians tickets are the perfect way to enjoy a game of cutting edge baseball. In recent times, the team has worked its way through a slump to notch up a Central Division Title win in 2001. The current roster shows a healthy mix of young and veteran players that are sure to shine on the field.

The Indians are part of the Major League in baseball and are affiliated with the American League and the Central Division. Their team is often referred to as The Tribe by fans and has a franchise record of 8075 wins and 7711 losses.

From The Blues To The Indians

The team started out as the Cleveland Blues in 1901 and went through a number of name changes before settling on the Cleveland Indians in 1915. Popular legend has it that the name was taken in honor of one of its most famous players Louis Sockalexis, who was Native American. In actuality, the name was thought up by local newspapers.

The Indians established themselves as middle runners till about 1946. The Indians faced a number of tragedies along the way, like losing Ray Chapman due to a ball that fractured his skull and ultimately killed him. By 1947 however, the team had become a solid body, comprised of mainly young players. The Indians soon distinguished themselves by not only breaking the color barrier, but by also winning the first one-game playoff in American League history to enter the World Series.

Curses And Controversies

By then, Cleveland Indians tickets were becoming a popular item among baseball fans everywhere. However things began to dim for the team in 1960, when Rocky Colavito was traded, sealing the fate of the Indians for the next 30 years. In what has become infamous as one of the worst trades in baseball, the Curse of Rocky Colavito kept the Indians in the cellar. They were unable to post a positive win on the field and ownership of the team kept changing hands.

It wouldn’t be until 1994 that things began to change for the better. In 2001, the team managed to win a Central Division Title and posted the biggest comeback in Major League baseball in their game against the Seattle Mariners. The game is fondly remembered as The Impossible Return by baseball enthusiasts and fans.

In the recent years, the team has been criticized for its name and especially its logo as being offensive to Native American sensibilities. While the name and logo may have been perceived as harmless a hundred years ago, Native American groups today feel that it perpetuates damaging stereotypes. This however, has not deterred fans from buying Cleveland Indians tickets to go for the games.

The Cleveland Indians have a proud number of Baseball Hall of Fame players to their name. Some of the biggest names in baseball like Nap Lajoie, Lou Boudreau, Early Wynn, Cy Young and Joe Sewell are all former Indians. So the next time you want to watch some baseball played Cleveland Indian style, get some Cleveland Indians tickets for a game near you. You can purchase those tickets online too from an authorized ticket vendor.

Win More Money At The Horse Races By Being An Informed Consumer

I can tell many people how to be more successful and win more money at the horse races just by doing one thing. One of the factors in betting that many people overlook is the track takeout, also known as the “vig.” Vig, short for vigorish, or takeout, is the amount of money deducted from the pools before all winning bets are paid. For instance, if there is a total of $10,000 bet to win on all the horses in a single race, that becomes the win pool.

When the people who played the winner are paid off, they get to divide that pool, but only after the track has deducted a certain amount of money that is governed by the laws of the state. There is also something called “breakage,” which we will discuss in another article. For now, let’s talk about the variations from state to state in the amounts of money that race tracks deduct from the pools.

First of all, almost all venues take a higher percentage from the exotic betting pools than the straight bet pools. Straights are win-place-show, while exotics are wagers that include more than one runner; exactas, trifectas, daily doubles, pick threes, etc. California is an example of a state that allows more of a takeout on exotics. In California the takeout allowed by law on straight bets is 15% (this is very modest compared to some states) while the exotics are subject to the 15% plus an additional 4.75%. When you are trying to show a profit, that 4.75% can make a big difference and may make you want to consider straight bets instead of the flashier but more expensive wagers like exactas and trifectas.

Let’s take a hypothetical situation and look at what the differences in state laws regarding takeouts can mean to you the consumer. Let’s say that Bob the Bettor goes to his local otb parlor three times a week and makes $100 worth of wagers each time. In the course of a year he will have wagered a total of $15,600. Of course, that doesn’t mean he lost it all, in fact maybe he is a pretty good horse picker and losing slowly over time, and he loses about $1,560 or about 10%, in a year.

Bob likes to play the races in sunny Arizona because they start later in the day than the East Coast horse tracks so he has more time to handicap his program. The problem is that the tracks in Arizona are allowed by state law to deduct a whopping 25% on straight wagers and 30%-35% on exotics. So of the $100 that he wagers each day Bob is paying a minimum of $25. In the course of a year it costs him $3,900 to play the ponies. It costs Bob $25 each day to play, but one simple change could reduce that to $15, a savings of $10 per day.

If Bob likes to play a track that starts later in the day, he could switch to the Southern California tracks and pay only 15% on his bets. Instead of costing him $3,900 his wagers will now cost $2,340. That is a savings of $1,560! At the end of the year he will be ahead over $1500 and all he had to do was be a wise consumer. For the casual bettor this may or may not be a big concern, though I don’t know why it wouldn’t, since whether your wagers are casual or not it is still real money, your money.

Professional gamblers need to use every means at their disposal to make a profit, after all, it is their livelihood. If you are seriously playing the races and trying to make a profit you need to be a wise consumer. If enough people spend their money where they get the best deal, the management and state legislators will take notice and start to give you a better deal. There is a lot of competition for the gambling dollar right now and many states depend upon that income to fund their programs. Make them compete for your money and you’ll get a better deal.

Playing the horses can be fun, exciting, and even profitable, but like any other activity involving money, it can involve unnecessary waste and loss. If you want more information check out a list of track takeouts by state. Also, if you want a better deal, call, email or write to the state legislators and let them know how you feel about the deal you’re getting in every state that has a race track that you want to play. They make the laws and will yield to financial pressure.

The Importance of Offering First Aid Training to Soccer Players

Soccer is a very physical game involving lots of running with sudden stops; a ball traveling long distances at incredible velocities and plenty of chances for violent collisions. Though, as a whole, soccer is a very safe sport to participate in, any activity with similar game play can lead to a multitude of minor injuries and potentially even some more severe ones.

There are many factors that can increase the chances of injury – like players not having warmed up properly, wet or slippery field conditions, players not paying attention or players and coaches simply ignoring the rules of safety.

Any time that there is an increased chance for a participant in any activity to become injured it’s important that someone on staff be properly trained in administering first aid, in a sport that’s as active and competitive as soccer, it’s important that everyone be trained in first aid in a case where multiple injuries may occur and coaches or staff need assistance in caring for the injured players.

Here are some of the common injuries associated with the sport of soccer, many of which can be tended to with basic first aid principals and training.

Sprains

Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries associated with the sport of soccer. High speed running with quick and frequent stops and angular cuts is almost a recipe for a sprained ankle.

Muscle strains and Pulls

These can come from players who haven’t warmed up properly, from attempting an uncommon or unusually high kick or from losing ones footing on a slippery playing field. Strains and pulls, depending upon severity can be excruciatingly painful.

Concussions

In addition to the feet, soccer players are allowed to play the ball with their heads. A ball traveling at a high rate of speed and covering forty or so yards of playing field and impacting a players head can do a bit more than just have the player seeing stars momentarily. Also when two players go up for a ball in the air, the chances increase for an accidental head but, which is also a good chance for a concussion.

Cramps

Muscle cramps are common in any sport where a good deal of running takes place, and although they aren’t very serious the pain associated can be reasonably high from the onset through the time the cramp has run its course.

The aforementioned list comprises the most common injuries that occur on the soccer field, few of which are very serious and even less of which are life threatening. The most serious injuries listed above are the concussion and the ankle sprain, both of which will most likely require the player who suffers them to miss a few games, but unless either is unusually severe the player would likely be back on the field in a week to ten days. Proper first aid training will help to identify the signs of each of the injuries listed above and let the proper course of treatment begin to be followed, whether it be ice, massage, elevation or stabilization.

Just like in any sport where there is potential for impact, there is a chance that some more serious injuries will occur on the soccer field. Any time two players collide at high speed or a misplaced kick from one player makes contact with another there is a chance for things like broken bones or deep lacerations to occur.

In the event a situation like this should occur, the players who are properly trained in first aid can begin to administer immediate care while waiting for emergency personnel to respond. If immediate action isn’t taken in one of these more serious injury situations, a more permanent injury could potentially occur. First aid training will teach players how to properly stop bleeding, how to administer CPR and how to tend to individuals who may be in shock from the severe pain of suffering broken bones.

Terrific Baseball With Detroit Tigers Tickets

For those who want to catch some championship baseball, Detroit Tigers tickets are about the best you can get. While most teams are described as being consistent players, the Tigers are a team who are consistent winners, notching up American League pennants and World Series titles with apparent ease.

The Detroit Tigers are affiliated with the American League and the Central Division within Major League baseball. Their home ground is Comerica Park and the team is also known as the Bless You Boys. They have four World Series titles to their name, ten American League pennants and three titles from their former East Division.

A Slow Start

It might be hard to believe, but at one time nobody was interested in Detroit Tigers tickets. In fact, baseball in Detroit seemed to be in doldrums and the team was unable to pull in the fans that they needed to be a force to reckon with in the major leagues. For a team that had its beginnings in 1894, it wouldn’t be until 1905, when Ty Cobb, one of the biggest names in baseball took over the reigns of the team that things would begin to change.

It would take time but slowly the team began to find its strength and by the 1930s they were ranked among the best in the league. 1934 and 1935 in particular were great years for the Tigers as they pulled in World Series titles and an American League pennant. The fans loved it and Detroit Tigers tickets were in demand.

Highs And Lows

It seemed like the Tigers were a team that just wouldn’t quit. They grew from strength to strength, rising to the top yet again in 1968 when they scored another double World Series and American League win. But the Tigers seemed to run out of steam in the early seventies. Although the fans kept buying Detroit Tigers tickets and packing the stadiums, it was obvious that the team was mostly made up of veterans who had passed their prime.

It wouldn’t be until 1979 that the Tigers would have a turn-around under Sparky Anderson. He predicted a win for the team in five years and sure enough, the Tigers brought in an American League pennant in 1984. Though their performance had definitely improved, another World Series title kept eluding them. Many believe this played on team morale because the Tigers entered a slump which lasted until 2000. However, in 2006 the Tigers came back with a resounding roar, taking back their American League champ status and making it to the World Series. Today, the Tigers are a serious force to contend with for any baseball team.

Many baseball fans love to get Detroit Tigers tickets to watch them battle it out with their rivals, which include the Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers have also put some outstanding names in the Baseball Hall of Fame, including Ty Cobb, Sparky Anderson, Mickey Cochrane, Sam Crawford and Goose Goslin. You can always count on great baseball action with the Tigers so an investment in Detroit Tigers tickets is an investment in a great baseball game. For fans buying their tickets online, make sure you get them from an authorized ticket vendor.
